New era of transparency for Social Landlords

Our leaders want us to trust them, but do you?

Are your residents’ scrutiny systems and practices in place yet? By now your organisation will no doubt be well on its was to agreeing your resident scrutiny processes.

The TSA’s  new Co-regulation requires organisations to have in place effective resident scrutiny. Many of you have something in place but do you have the skills in your organisation to implement it effectively?

Social landlord tenants and staff can now benefit from a brand-new course to help them work together to achieve better services for tenants.

The Resident Scrutiny Award has been set up by us (the Board Development Agency) ahead of new regulatory requirements, to be implemented by the Tenants Services Authority (TSA) in April 2010.

We have introduced this ground-breaking award as many resident scrutiny panels are being set up by housing organisations right now. Tenants need to be equipped with the confidence and skills to act as a critical friend to the organisation they are scrutinising. The course is also aimed at staff to give them know-how to run an effective resident scrutiny service.

Residents and staff are taken through an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed programme over two days. The topics covered include the range of scrutiny activities required, creating effective teams and evaluating the effectiveness of resident scrutiny. Participants will also be asked to keep a portfolio of their learning. For more information go to www.boardagency.org.uk

The two day Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed Resident Scrutiny Award can be set up an in-house or you can join a regional programme. The  Resident Scrutiny Award takes place at Trafford Hall in Manchester on 4th and 5th March 2010 and other regional centres in the UK.
