After recently trying and failing to book an appointment with my local GP, I was intrigued to read a report into unflexible GP hours. After reading comments from Neil Bentley of the CBI, who said: ” it was revealed that 10 million people can’t book a doctor’s appointment more than 48 hours in advance, and that millions of days of work are lost a year because of inflexible GP hours. This survey demonstrates yet again that the current system of primary heathcare needs reform. The government must make this a priority.”
Combine this with Recent analysis from Alliance Boots, which shows that businesses lose 28 million working hours and £1 billion a year because employees have little choice but to schedule GP visits in working hours, then you know that our GP`s are not worth the huge sums of money they are being paid and not working efficiently. We all need to visit our Doctor now and again, but why should we lose pay or holiday time because Dr Jones cannot be prepared to stay late. Our Government needs to take a strong, focused look at this problem, because these issues affect us all and I want to see a doctor!!!
