I’ve enjoyed designing two new and very different websites in the last few weeks but both with a common theme: the desire for independence. First up was a site for the new Edgar Street Grid Business Association, here in Hereford. The ESG Business Association are concerned that they have not been consulted on plans to force them to move in order to build a huge new retail complex in the middle of Hereford. They are concerned that the development of the Grid may adversely affect the 197 businesses there already, who employ 3,600 people and generate £142.8 million each year for the local economy. There are also serious concerns about the economic viability of our city centre, traffic, carbon emissions and so on. You can view the website at www.esgbusiness.co.uk
Putting all this very much into perspective is a website I have produced for a charity called Useful Hands. This UK based charity supports a Health and Training Centre run by Christians in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in one of the world’s poorest communities. It has support from the UK including some friends here in Hereford. Despite grinding poverty and the horrific legacy of civil war, this is very much a good news story. Read about how local people are regaining control over their own lives despite their experiences and their disadvantaged backgrounds, and find out how you can help, at www.useful-hands.org
