Interesting news in the latest issue of Computing (‘Whitehalll Plans Web Accounts’, 13 September 2007)!
Journalist Sarah Arnott suggests the Government is considering creating individual online accounts for citizens accessing Central Government services over the internet.
Central Government is clearly following the lead of Local Government for once where citizens have been successfully accessing services through secure individual online accounts for a number of years.
Gandlake for example already provides secure online account facilities to twenty-one local authorities across the UK – accessible by literally thousands of citizens.
If the plan moves ahead and, I hope it does, this is great news for citizens and Government.
The Government will achieve all important ‘communication channel balance’ and citizens will be able to interact with the Government when they want and, how they want.
