“The need for high level skills such as leadership and multi-agency working has become apparent with the changes in the way housing professionals work across the sectors, often in a leading role.”
I read that just before the articles on Ujima. It is these basic skills of leadership and management which are needed to keep any housing association working. I wonder how many housing associations realise the key to training new managers – and even old ones! Many people become managers as they are experts at their job. However, leadership and management are also jobs, in which the skills must be taught and managers supported. The CIH is recognising this by having a leadership programme accredited with the ILM. While this is excellent, smaller housing associations need to realise they may well be eligible for funding from their local business link from locally approved providers. More this may well prevent more Ujima’s.
